Café Coyote plans to celebrate a Puerto Nuevo tradition by serving Puerto Nuevo style lobsters every Thursday from 11 a.m. until close. Puerto Nuevo is an area in Baja that has achieved recognition from all over for its famous “Puerto Nuevo style” lobsters. Puerto Nuevo style lobsters are served fried to keep the meat tender. Puerto Nuevo style lobsters traditionally come with a side of rice, beans and homemade tortillas.

Puerto Nuevo style lobsters have been a tradition in the Baja region since 1956. According to legend, the tradition started when two local women in a fishing village south of Rosarito decided to drop fresh lobster into hot, bubbling oil. Puerto Nuevo style lobsters quickly became a staple in the area because many families did not have refrigerators, and the lobsters did not require any refrigerated ingredients. Since 1956, Puerto Nuevo has served locals and tourist millions of lobsters each year.

At Café Coyote, diners can enjoy this Mexican tradition without traveling all the way to Puerto Nuevo. For $25.95, diners will receive a 1.5 to 1.75 pound lobster served with Mexican style rice, refried beans, handmade tortillas, drawn butter and fresh salsa. Lobsters are only available until supplies run out so get there early.

Cafe Coyote plans to celebrate the traditional Latin American holiday, Dia de los Muertos from October 26th to November 2nd at its location in San Diego’s historic downtown. Dia de los Muertos is a Catholic holiday centered around All Saints Day on November 1st and All Souls Day on November 2nd. On All Saints Day, families honor and remember deceased children. All Souls Day is reserved for remembering adults who are deceased. Dia de los Muertos is meant to be a joyous celebration of life; it is not intended to be somber or scary.

Cafe Coyote invitees its employees and the community to honor their deceased loved ones by visiting its Dia de los Muertos altar. The altar is a Dia de los Muertos staple that is used for families to place items deceased spirits will need when they make the journey back to visit the living. These items can include toiletries so the spirit can clean-up after making the long journey, personal items that belonged to the deceased person or even tequila or cigarettes.

During Dia de los Muertos, Cafe Coyote will give away free Mexican hot chocolate and face painting. Cafe Coyote will also feature a traditional Dia de los Muertos menu with items like hot chocolate served with almonds and cinnamon.

Cafe Coyote won awards for Best Mexican cuisine in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. The restaurant is located at 2461 San Diego Avenue. For reservations, call 619.291.HOWL (4695) or visit www.cafecoyote.com.

Come Celebrate Easter at Café Coyote

Easter is the most widely celebrated religious holiday in Mexico. With the vast majority of Mexicans practicing Roman Catholicism, this might not come as a surprise.Because of this, the majority of students in Mexico have spring break over Holy Week, and it is thus one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.

In Mexico, Holy Week, or Semana Santa, is observed heavily throughout the weekthroughspecial masses and other practices, such as processions and plays. Easter Sunday itself is eagerly awaited and is the most important day of the year to the church. Packed celebrations are held in every church across the country. The atmosphere post-mass is joyous, and crowds bustle about, visiting local street vendors selling food and snacks, as well as toys. The country is reborn with the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus.

See our Specials section for our special Easter menu!

The refined cooking of the Mayans, use of Chiles and Herbs, coupled with Fresh Seafood, Makes Tabasco’s Traditional dishes truly delicious.
Getting ready to celebrate Cinco De Mayo? Cafe Coyote in Old Town, San Diego is the perfect place to celebrate Cinco De Mayo today and tonight. Cafe Coyote will be serving traditional Mexican food made from authentic fresh ingredients prepared from regional recipes by Mexican chefs.

Celebrate with a famous Cafe Coyote Grande Margarita or other specialty cocktails. Did you know that Margaritas are the most popular beverage sold in bars nationwide, and that the Cinco De Mayo celebration in Old Town serves up more Tequila than anywhere else in the United States on this special day.

Cafe Coyote wants this to be a relaxing and enjoyable experience so plan ahead. There is plenty of free / paid parking around the State Park (click here to see a map of Old Town). You could also take the Trolley directly to Old Town (visit MTS for more details and ticket prices). There will also be plenty of cabs and pedi-cabs to help shuttle you around Old Town or provide a safe ride home.

Cafe Coyote will be celebrating Cinco De Mayo in true form: there will be excellent cuisine, refreshing cocktails, Mexican tortilla ladies making fresh tortillas, strolling Mariachi’s and sponsored giveaways all night long.

If you can’t make it tonight, join us any Tuesday for our Taco Tuesday celebration.
